The other day I was online looking at jewelry topics to discuss here at Love & Pieces. I came across a mention of a mustard seed necklace. I had to to read it twice because I wasn’t sure I read it correctly the first time. A mustard seed necklace?
I was intrigued to say the least and started my mission to learn more. It turns out the mustard seed itself is just 1-2 millimeters. The mustard seed is almost unnoticeable to the naked eye. Great But What's The Significance?
It turns out the mustard seed is mentioned several times throughout the bible as a symbol of faith. The comparison use is like the tiny seed growing into a great shade-providing plant. Humble beginnings and a tad bit of faith can flourish into full-fledge devotion. Though the seed is a symbol of faith in Christianity, it is also known to signify good luck in the secular community. So between faith and luck, turns out there are quite a number of people wearing mustard seed necklaces.

The seed was introduced as a fashion accessory around the Victorian Era between 1837-1901. (Love of Vintage) That’s nearly 200 years ago! Usually displayed in a glass amulet, the seed was popular among both women and men. The seed was showcased in various fashion décor such as watch chains, necklaces, brooches, and cufflinks.
Mustard seed jewelry made a major comeback in the 1940’s, during the World War II period, and continued its popularity throughout the 50’s and 60’s. The jewelry signified hope and perseverance during this time of change and turmoil. The seed was normally encased in a heart-shaped or round plastic orb.
