Our Meridian Avenue Interview One On One

Meridian Avenue Jewelry Interview

Our Featured Designer Of The Month Of October - Meridian Avenue Interview

This month we are so excited to be featuring a local Miami Beach brand, Meridian Avenue.  Meridian Ave is a handmade line of jewelry by emerging and hip young designer, Lauren Turchin.  Turchin, who has lived in Miami her whole life designs the line to add the perfect amount of bohemian glamour and sophistication to any outfit.

Your Company is Called Meridian Avenue, Can you tell us where it came from?

Meridian Avenue is the name of a street that has undeniably played a significant role in my life and in the life of my family as a whole. Four generations of Turchins, myself included, have lived and grown up on this single street for over 60 years. When naming my company, I couldn’t think of a better name to represent my brand as it perfectly encapsulated the Miami Beach girl that I am.

Have you always lived in Miami Beach and designed in Miami? How do you think that has influenced your work?

I was born in Miami, grew up here, and even went to college at the U. I guess you can say I really like this place. Living in Miami has influenced my work by being surrounded by constant change and diversity. I come up with ideas on a daily basis just by being exposed to my everyday surroundings.

When you design pieces are you designing for yourself or for a target customer and who is that customer?

I first design for myself. If I won’t wear it, then I am not going to make it. I only feel comfortable producing jewelry that I personally would wear and from there I create a line.

What new jewelry trends do you see coming in the near future?

Even though I am a gold fanatic, I can see silver making a comeback.

What designers do you love or think have inspired your work?

I love the work of Delfina Delettrez and Polly Wales. Eventually I would like to go in the direction of fine jewelry one day, and these two great designers are inspiring me to want to do so.

Lastly if you were not a jewelry designer what do you think you would be doing?

I most probably would be on the show American Pickers, since I am a pro at bargain shopping and finding treasures.
