One Oak By Sara Interview One On One
Our One Oak By Sara Interview
Featured Designer of the Month of July
This month we sit with jewelry designer Sara Reichert to discuss her jewelry line One OAK by Sara. Sara has a unique taste combining edgy chains and textures with more traditional gemstones. Much of her inspiration comes from antique stores and vintage jewelry. Combining some of the old world feel with modern elements and materials.
Your jewelry company is called One Oak by Sara. Can you tell us about the meaning behind the name and how you came up with the idea?
One OAK stands for One Of A Kind. Using handmade components and natural gemstones, I strive for a distinctive look. Each piece is one of a kind in nature or in the way it’s worn.
What would you say is the most exciting part of the design process for you? Is there anything you don't particularly enjoy?
I absolutely love seeing people bring their One OAK by Sara jewelry to life. It’s so exciting for me to view the end result—people really have a lot of fun with layering the pieces. I also love getting inspired by a shape or a certain material and designing a collection around that.
What designers do you love or look to for design inspiration?
I’m a big fan of Robert Lee Morris. I love that his designs seem so inspired by the natural world. During one of my trunk shows at Henri Bendel, I had the opportunity to meet him. He was modest and approachable, and I really appreciate his design aesthetic. In terms of clothing, I really love the design of Smythe jackets. They fit perfectly and you feel great wearing them! I think that’s one of the most important design elements in fashion—clothing and accessories that make you feel comfortable and confident.
Describe your customer in three words...
Authentic. Confident. Fashionable.
What do you think is the newest or hottest jewelry trend that we are going to see a lot of in the near future?
In all honesty, I try not to follow trends too closely. I think layering necklaces, stacking bracelets, and of course, wearing statement earrings will remain really important as people continue to find ways to personalize their look.
What do you love to do when you are not working?
I really enjoy spending time with my family and friends. It’s also nice to travel (and see new places), whenever possible.
